Benefits of Mindfulness

MBSR is evidence-based with over 30 years of published research. Many people who complete the course report:

Worldwide, tens of thousands of people have completed the eight-week MBSR course and have learned how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain, and illness. MBSR is seen as a complement to standard medical and psychological treatment.

MBSR will give you the tools and training to enhance your health and well-being through a deep understanding of the mind-body connection using scientifically tested practices to mobilize your inner resources. You will learn ways to reduce your reactivity to stressful situations and to respond to any circumstance with greater awareness, presence and equanimity.

According to this Harvard Business Review Article : "Mindfulness should no longer be considered a 'nice-to-have' for executives. It’s a 'must-have':  a way to keep our brains healthy, to support self-regulation and effective decision-making capabilities, and to protect ourselves from toxic stress. It can be integrated into one’s religious or spiritual life, or practiced as a form of secular mental training.  When we take a seat, take a breath, and commit to being mindful, particularly when we gather with others who are doing the same, we have the potential to be changed."

Mindfulness meditation has received a great deal of attention in the media in recent years because of the strong and consistent evidence showing that it reduces stress and improves health and well-being. The Stress Reduction Program founded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979, has been featured in the Bill Moyers' PBS documentary Healing and The Mind, on NBC Dateline, on ABC's Chronicle and in various national print media and is the subject of Jon Kabat-Zinn's best selling book, Full Catastrophe Living and Saki Santorelli's book, Heal Thy Self. MBSR has also been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Oz, and in countless newspapers and magazines. Most recently, Time Magazine dedicated their February 3rd, 2014 issue to the effectiveness and benefits of mindfulness and included an extensive interview with Dr. Kabat- Zinn.

"Mindfulness is a love affair - with life, with reality and with imagination, with the beauty of your own being, with your heart and body and mind, and with the world."
