About Joanne Taormina, LMSW

Joanne Taormina received her Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and her MSW from Smith College, School for Social Work. She has been working as a clinical social worker for over 30 years and maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Ithaca, New York where she works with adults ages 18 and older.

Joanne has completed the highest level of training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness. She holds a holistic perspective of the mind/body connection and a deep belief in our inherent wholeness and innate capacity for wisdom, healing and well-being.

In 2013, Joanne co-created the MBSR program at The Stress Reduction Center at Long Island Behavioral Medicine with Dr. Gabrielle Chiaramonte and acts as a consultant to this continuing program..

In addition, Joanne has worked as a hospice social worker and as an elementary school social worker in Ithaca, New York.

Joanne is certified in the treatment of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
